The Position
As an integral part of the Clinic team, you will work collaboratively with colleagues to provide an efficient, professional and compassionate caring service for animals in the care of the JSPCA following all appropriate legislation and JSPCA policies and procedures.
Training will be provided by experienced members of the team, but experience with and a love of
animals will be a distinct advantage.

The Responsibilities
• Daily cleaning of the domestic birds, reptiles, aquatics and wildlife accommodation and rooms to the designated standard of cleanliness in accordance with JSPCA guidelines.
• The feeding, handling, socialising, exercising, grooming, training and rehabilitation of animals and birds as directed, including tube/syringe feeding where necessary.
• Assisting with the rehabilitation and release of wildlife, to include caring for dependent wild orphans (mammals and birds) around the clock.
• Assessing the health of wildlife in JSPCA care regularly and actioning euthanasia where deemed necessary
• Rehoming animals in JSPCA care in partnership with other departments
• Providing support and advice for the Out of Hours Ambulance Drivers
• Providing support and advice to Kennels, Cattery and Small Animal departments if concerns are raised about the health of the animals in their care
• Reporting any concerns raised by animal care staff about the animals in their care to the JSPCA veterinary department or the animals own private vets as required.
• Administering prescribed medication to animals in the care of the JSPCA as instructed by a Veterinary Surgeon
• Completing and maintaining accurate records as required, ensuring compliance with data protection legislation.
• Amending and updating Clinic protocols and care guides as appropriate.
• Liaising with reception staff and members of the public as necessary, particularly in respect of viewing and rehoming animals
• Ensuring any medical concerns about a boarding animal is communicated with the owner when collecting their animal
• Maintaining a safe, clean, tidy, stocked and hygienic working environment at all times, including the animal rooms and shared business areas.
• Providing cover and support for colleagues across all departments as necessary.
Working Safely and Securely:
You will take reasonable care for your own safety and the safety of others, including the public, staff, volunteers and contractors, by complying with health and safety and other related procedures to manage and minimise risk. You will actively participate in evacuation training and procedures as necessary.
Full Time – Rota pattern to cover 7-day working week
Seasonal shift work until 8pm (still being developed)
Supporting our Purpose
You will wear your JSPCA uniform with pride and enthusiastically provide information about the JSPCA to the public to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of our cause. You will help maximise our income generation, using JSPCA guidelines and procedures, and will support wider fundraising initiatives as required.
Experience / Qualifications / Education
Knowledge and experience of animal care needs, including birds, reptiles, aquatics and wildlife.
• Knowledge and experience of the administration of prescribed medication is desirable
• An understanding of and ability to deliver good hygiene and cleanliness standards
• A caring and empathetic nature enabling effective interactions with clients and the animals.
• Knowledge of relevant Health and Safety compliance requirements and best practice relating to all aspects of the job and ability to assess and manage operational risk relevant to the role.
• Knowledge and understanding of Data Protection Legislation requirements relevant to the role.
• Computer Literacy and experience of record keeping.
• Good team worker but also with the ability to work independently.
• Ability to follow instructions and take responsibility for getting things done within agreed parameters.
• Ability to manage own time and prioritise activities to meet agreed deadlines.
